Since I’m still healing from an injury and can’t do the same level of activity as I normally do, I decided to give my metabolism a boost by switching to a full keto diet and boy, have I taken an afternoon energy hit!

This is totally normal as the body adjusts to a new routine in the beginning, and luckily there’s a few things we can do to offset it.

The first is to take a good quality ketone supplement that helps the body get into ketosis quicker and maintain optimum energy levels. This is great to take in the morning.

And if you need a little boost in the afternoon, I recommend the following:

Almond (or Coconut) Kratom Hot Chocolate

Say whaaat!!! This came out so delicious. A secret technique I used was to blend the nut milk and cacao together in my magic bullet before warming. Also, if you choose to use full-fat coconut milk, try using 2/3rd coconut milk mixed with 1/3 water, else it may come out too think.

1 – 1.5 cup of almond or coconut milk

1 – 2 tbsp of raw cacao powder

1 tsp monk fruit sweetener

1 scoop ketones

*optional: ½ – 1 Kratom Honey Stick

To prepare:

Mix together your milk of choice and cacao, then warm to your desired temperature. Add the monk fruit sweetener and kratom honey stick. Stir and enjoy!

Not only is this drink delicious, but it also helps ward off those afternoon carb cravings, as the high content of healthy fats is super satiating, and the combination with the cacao makes it feel like you’re indulging in something decadent.

The brain-boosting benefits of this drink come from the carefully chosen ingredients:

Cacao contains theobromine, a natural stimulant that can help enhance cognitive function, without the spike and crash that accompanies caffeine.

The electrolytes in coconut milk can provide a boost of energy to your brain and can help overcome tiredness.

And if you opt for the almond milk, you can count on a good dose of L-Carnitine, riboflavin, and vitamin E, all of which support cognitive health.

Finally, I discovered these super cool kratom honey sticks which contain only 4 grams of sugar per stick. So if you’re adhering to a keto diet, it won’t derail you if you use a half to one stick.

Kratom has many potential positive impacts on mood and energy levels, and I find that these sticks in particular help with my ability to focus, especially when I take them in the afternoon after my brain has been working for a number of hours and starts to fatigue.

Another potential benefit is that kratom is known to suppress appetite, so if you find yourself giving in to those afternoon sugar fixes, this could turn out to be your secret weapon!

*For those of you who can’t heat things at work, I recommend prepping in the morning and taking with you in a thermos to keep it warm.

And there you have it! A great way to boost energy, ward off hunger and cravings, and avoid the pitfalls of the afternoon coffee shop run (did someone say muffins and espresso? Um…yum…I mean, gross….hmmm….I’ll have to share a recipe for keto muffins next time!!).
