Whether you’re looking to decrease body fat, increase lean muscle, or both, it’s important to include a sufficient amount of lean protein in your diet.
One of my favorite ways to do this is by having a protein shake for either a quick breakfast or as a snack, and studies show that whey protein specifically is effective in improving body composition, unlike some other proteins such as soy.
This is an especially good option if you are looking to cut back on meat, or are vegetarian, and the method used to produce whey protein concentrate removes the lactose during the process – great news for those who are lactose intolerant.
It’s important however to chose a high-quality whey protein powder because you don’t want one that was derived from cows treated with hormones or antibiotics. Cinnamon is an excellent digestive spice which has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, and bananas have also been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels!

Banana-Almond Protein Shake
I ripe banana
1 Tbsp raw almond butter
1 scoop New Zealand Whey Protein
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp almond extract
1 ½ cups filtered water
Combine all ingredients in a blender and serve at room temperature.
