A Morning Routine to Optimize Your Day

Today, I’d like to talk about something that is crucial to your success when trying to lose weight – morning routine. I know, you might be thinking ‘just tell me what to eat’, which I will in another video, but first I’d like you to understand how a routine can be the key element you need to kick start and maintain your weight loss.

Imagine this scenario – the alarm buzzes, you’re jolted awake, you’re on alert. The sympathetic nervous system kicks in and the cortisol is pumping. You’re now in a state of stress.

Your morning continues like this as you groggily get yourself ready for work, get the kids ready if you have kids, and so on.

This is NOT the way you want to start your day!

Once the sympathetic nervous system takes over, we’re in fight or flight mode, and this is an instant threat to any weight loss goals because the body doesn’t function properly in this state.

Your gastrointestinal system becomes compromised, as well as your cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems, putting you at risk for a whole slew of complications including all sorts of digestive disturbances, type II diabetes, constipation, hardening of the arteries – and weight gain!

Cortisol makes you store fat people! It can also lead to anxiety and depression, which are certainly not conducive to weight loss or a happy life.

Ideally, you want to be able to wake up without an alarm (and if you’re not there, don’t worry, I’ll help you to get there) so you start your day relaxed and refreshed. If you wake naturally, you’ll have more energy and feel better rested from the moment you wake up.

Before you even get up, take a moment to set an intention for the day. Express gratitude for all the blessings in your life, and know that the new day is an opportunity for endless possibilities and abundance.

This will help get you in the right mindset to attract everything wonderful into your life and become the creator of your own reality.em>

Next thing you want to do is as you are in the bathroom, and you wash your face, brush your teeth, you’ll want to scrape your tongue. You can read more about this in my blog post on how tongue scraping can help you lose weight.

After that, sip a cup of hot water before you eat or drink anything else. This will help flush out toxins that may have built up over night, and stimulate your digestive fire, known as agni in Ayurveda.

What does that mean – it means your metabolism gets a nice kick start! And that’s the key to losing weight for most people – eliminating toxins and firing up a sluggish metabolism.

It will also help you get your bowels moving instead of relying on coffee like many people do.

Who would have thought something as simple as drinking hot water could do this? I was amazed when I first learned this trick, but after doing it, I discovered that it really works!

So that’s our morning routine:

1. Wake up without an alarm (ideally)
2. Take a few moments for gratitude and intention setting
3. Scrape your tongue
4. Sip hot water
